Encryption is now mandatory by Gmail for more security of users' data.
In 2010, Gmail announced encryption necessary for security of their users. But on complaints from users that speed of Gmail has become slow, they were provided the option to disable encryption. But now Google has announced that encryption is being made mandatory for all the users.
Now the users who were using http:// protocol will automatically be transferred to https:// protocol after which their data and privacy will be secure.
