3G Pakistan

Bidding for 3G and 4G in Pakistan will be held on 23rd April.
Supreme Court has issued a decree in this regard.
On  this occasion, Chairman PTA told that 4 out of 5 cellular
companies have showed interest in the bidding and
and have also deposited 15% of the total fee. The auction is
expected to generate 1.3 billion dollars. Until the final
edict, the revenue from auction will remain in the
Federal Consolidated Fund. Next hearing of case will be in the
third week of May.

Authors from a foreign news agency previously wrote in their
that auction of 3G and 4G licenses in Pakistan will not be
able to generate the targeted revenue. Pakistan expected for
about 22 billion dollars but this bidding will bring only
95 crore. According to the report, Finance Minister Ishaaq Daar
quite furious on this and wants the auction to be cancelled.
PTA has already rejected the report. According to the spokesperson
, all the cellular companies have upheld this auction.

Basic fee for 3G technology license is 295 million dollars and
that for 4G LTE license is 210 million dollars. PTA has declared to
file a case against the report.

Let's see what is 3G and 4G? How did they begin? The "G" in 3G and
4G stands for "Mobile technology generation"
. 1G technology started in Japan in 1980. 1G made use of Analog technology
and it also provided the service for sending voice messages.
2G technology was introduced in Finland in 1991 which began a new era of
clear voice calls, sms, picture messages and mms. 2.5G came afterwards 2G in which
GPRS and edge provided great internet speed on mobiles. Same technology is being used in Pakistan.
Internet speed is around 15 to 20 KB/sec through GPRS.

3G technology was introduced in Japan in 2001, in Europe, December 2001, in South Korea, May 2002,
in America, July 2002 and in June 2003 it reached Australia. Today China, India, Iraq, Turkey,
Syria, Bangladesh, Canada and including Afghanistan, almost 150 countries are using 3G
technology. 3G users are more than 1 billion in number. In Japan 81%, America 80% and
South Korea 70% of the total mobile phone users are benefiting from 3G technology.
3G provides better data transfer speed and network facilities. Internet can also be
provided on the fastest broadband speed which ranges from 512 Kbps to 1-3 Mbps. Through 3G one can, live video conference,
live TV programs on phone, 3D games , listen to music and and can benefit from the fastest internet speed. Location based
services (LBS) can be provided. GPS can be used to know about weather and time of any part of the world.
Information and knowledge can be shared to remote villages about health through tele-medicine.

Skype, Viber, Tango, Yahoo messenger and other internet services can be used without any pause. In other words internet
speed on 3G is equal to the wi-fi.

After the great success of 3G, 4G was launched which is the fastest known mobile telecommunication servce.
It not only provides the facilities as of 3G also its internet speed can reach up to 100 Mbps. 4G is featured with I.P based voice calls,
online gaming and HD streaming. It is only available in a handful of countries. Up-till now, 3G hasn't been launched in our dear homeland.

Although 3G was launched in 2001, but in our country it began to grow popular in 2009.
Regretfully, 3G technology license has not been auctioned. Due to lack of fast data transfer speed on mobile, Pakistan is losing billions of
rupees. Former PTA Chairman Farooq Saeed Awan accepted this is August 2012 that the delay in the auction og 3G license cost Pakistan around 20 billion rupees.
Bidding of 3G technology license will not only give government 3 billion dollars but it will also attract investors. According to the report of a foreign consultant,
this bidding will financially stabilize the economy of Pakistan. More delay will cause monthly drop of 5 billion rupees in GDP. Introduction of 3G technology will add 380 to 1180 billion rupees
to the economy uptil 2020. It will also create 9 lac employment opportunities.

Need of the hour is that 3G and 4G technology should be launched as soon as possible so Pakistanis can also benefit from the latest technology.
