Ball to be Used in Football World Cup

"Brazuka" is one of the 12 footballs which Adidas prepared for Football Worldcup 2014 happening next month.
"Jabulani" which was also prepared by Adidas for the last Football World Cup in South Africa was not quite successful and made the company to face the music from the critics and experts. But this time Adidas says that speed and accuracy of this football is better than the whole lot.

Adidas football director Mathias Mecking says that "We have tested the football through some of the most diverse flight and accuracy tests and results clearly display that the line and axis of movement as well as the speed do not offer any sort of hindrance to the player."

According to an expert of Aerodynamics, Raabi Mehta, who works in NASA, told BBC that performance and spin of the ball depends on the ratio of friction on its surface.

Raabi Mehta tested "Jabulaani" in air tunnel and they are now also testing "Brazuca". Raabi says that Jabulani had an outer smooth surface due to which it wasn't able to spin correctly and even the players couldn't judge that where the ball was going after being kicked which is not the case for Brazuca.

Mehta also says that an overview of stitching can give you an estimate of roughness on the surface of football. Mehta further says that in comparison with "Teamgeist", the football used in 2006 Football World Cup in Germany, one can cearly see that apart from the stitching, Teamgeist was smooth and slippery.

According to Raabi, Brazuca is totally different from all these and ratio of roughness on its surface is much better than any other football. Small, rough spots on the surface make the aerial motion of the ball better. A 6 fan shaped panel is thermally fixed in Brazuca. Jabulani had 8 such panels while Teamgeist had 16 such panels.
